One of the most expensive Australian house sales of all time took place in Point Piper in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis and continuous interest rate hikes.
Here are five of the most expensive property sales across Australia so far this year, ranging from European-inspired porte-cochères to a brick four bedroom for $50M.
Tallebudgera Connection Road, Tallebudgera, QLD
The most expensive home ever auctioned in Queensland sold for $42 million in February…cash. Before the auction even began, a buyer made an unconditional cash offer for the 10-bedroom mansion, shattering Gold Coast records. Once the offer was announced, it went unmatched, and the rest is history. Tallebudgera’s 17-hectare estate features a European-style porte-cochere (also known as a very fancy doorway), ten bathrooms, a ballroom, gym, indoor pool, and enough gold décor to turn Trump Tower green with envy.
Fitzwilliam Rd, Vaucluse, NSW
In one of Sydney’s most exclusive suburbs, ‘Point Seymour’ changes hands after being owned by the Bracey family for 84 years. There is no official price for the three-level property dubbed “the wedding cake house,” which sold for $40 million in late December. The property sits on 1,271 sqms at the end of a cul-de-sac between the inlets of Vaucluse and Parsley Bay, and is known for its unique curved frontage.
From New South Head Road to Hopetoun Avenue, Fitzwilliam Road runs through Vaucluse, New South Wales. Fitzwilliam Road has modern houses and heritage houses, some with harbour views and pools.

Albany Road, Toorak, VIC
A grand mansion on Albany Road just weeks ago sold for the third-highest price in Melbourne’s history. Although a price guide of $55 million to $60 million was given for the residence, dubbed ‘Huntingfield’, the final price has not yet been disclosed. This home, spanning 3,300 square metres, features five bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. It also features a tennis court, a swimming pool, a gym, a sauna, a wine cellar, and eight parking spaces in the basement.

Wunulla Rd, Point Piper, NSW
An Australian family living overseas bought this “Spanish Mission-style” mansion in April 2023 for $69 million. In 2004, it sold for $10.5 million. This renovated five-bedroom, five-bath house in Sydney’s most expensive postcode originally cost £22,500. It has one of Point Piper’s only permanent moorings and its own private beach.
Wunulla Road runs along the harbourfront in Point Piper, New South Wales, and offers some of the best views and luxurious homes in Sydney.

Gaerloch Avenue, Tamarama, NSW
In further proof that it’s all about location (location, location…), a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom brick house built in the 1920s sold for $50 million in April 2023. Why? Because it sits on a 1150-square-metre block on the clifftops of Tamarama. In 1959, Dimity Griffiths bought the home for £9750, and lived there for 64 years, but the sale doubled Sydney’s previous sale record of $25 million.
Tamarama has a median house price of $5.5 million and a median unit price of $1.5 million as of April 2023.
